Laurence Jr. Mackey Born on November 22, 1935, in Atoka, Oklahoma, Laurence Jr. Mackey died peacefully at the age of 82 on April 2, 2018, at Mesilla Valley Hospice in the company of his wife, his two sons, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and grand-son-in-law. Junior served honorably with the United States Marine Corps 1953-1955, with a tour in Korea. Later in life, Junior, also known as Mack by fellow El Paso Electric Company co-workers, retired from the electric company after 36 years. Pat at the age of 14 and Junior at the age of 22 met in 1958 and married January 1st, 1959. They lived in Las Cruces for 19 years, then moved to Hatch, NM in 1978 where Junior lived out the rest of his days loving his family, telling his "tall-tales", fishing, hunting and camping, as well as a member and past president (1999-2000) of the Eagles Club F.O.E. 4308 where he'd point and constantly remind his loved ones, "I built that damn place". He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Mackey; siblings: Wanda Pippen and family, Virginia Reaser and family, and Glennett Childers and family; three children: Wyatt Mackey and wife Pam, daughter Sherry Kropf and husband Justin, and Cody Mackey; 6 grandchildren: Amber Malone and husband Michael, Travis White and wife Wynne, Amanda Atwell and husband Travis, Reanna Patterson-Mackey; and Kelly and Tyler Kropf: 7 great-grandchildren: Austin and Ashlynn Talkington, Alexis and Madeline Malone, Liam and Liesl Atwell, and baby Ruger White due any day now. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as others who have considered him dad, uncle, and papa. He was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Amy Mackey; his brothers Ray, Gene, Jerry and J.T.; his sister Shirley. The family would like to thank Mesilla Valley Hospice and the wonderful caretakers there. Would also like to thank Memorial Medical Center and the amazing nurses of the 4th floor. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Junior's name to Mesilla Valley Hospice or a charity of your choice. The viewing is open to family and friends at Getz Funeral Home on April 5th, 2018 from 5-7 PM. The graveside services are at Hatch Garden of Memories Cemetery on April 6th, 2018 at 12:00 PM.
