Laura C. Alderete

Laura Chavez Alderete, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, October 6, 2007. She was born in San Marcial, New Mexico on June 24, 1918. Laura had been an active and supportive member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. During her lifetime Laura served as a Board Member of the Munson Center and was involved in numerous community service projects and activities at the Center. She was also retired from New Mexico State University Food Service Division. Laura loved and cherished her family and is survived by eight children. Her daughters are Peggy Holland, Mary Hernandez, Loretta Lucero, Deborah Rivera, Nancy Eastlund, and Teresa Camacho and her sons Cruz and Max Alderete, Jr. She is also survived by four nieces and a nephew, who she and deceased husband Max N. Alderete raised. They include, Gloria Alderete, Elizabeth Duran, Patricia Sanchez and nephew Manuel Chavez. Her grandchildren include: Wesley and Lori Holland; Cindy Alderete-Delgado, Ronnie and Ralph Alderete, Anthony, Marc, Curtis and Danielle Hernandez: Armando and Andres Camacho; Eric and Marlo Sanchez; Michael Lucero; Brandon Alderete and Jared Rivera. Her surviving great grandchildren are Vivian, Arriana and Zachary Sanchez; Dallas Schanck, Marlene, Alex and Vincent Sanchez; Nicholas and Devon Delgado, Jacob Alderete; Clay Lucero; Clarissa Alderete; Chloe and Adriana Hernandez; Haley and Darrin Hernandez; Kaitlyn and Brianna Hernandez. She is also survived by two brothers Frank and Salvador Chavez. Laura leaves a legacy of love and kind deeds to her family, relatives and a host of friends dedicated to her memory. A visitation will be held from 7 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral where a prayer vigil will follow at 7:30 PM. Laura's funeral mass is at 10 AM on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary with Fr. Michael Cerretto officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
