On November 21,2021 Larry Lindsey passed away at home with his loving wife at his side. After years of courageously living with a rare neurological disease he passed at the age of 79.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Lindsey, his daughter Kimberly Hare (Quinton), and his son Peter Lindsey (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Desiree Gholson (Jon), Sheliah, Alaura, Zachary, Tayla, and Bradley and his great granddaughter, Avery Gholson; his sister, Beverly Denney (Carrol). Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Ruth and his youngest son, Sean.
Larry was born on March 29, 1942 in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated from Covina High School, California in 1960, then attended Pepperdine Christian University for engineering. In 1962 Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force serving honorably for four years. Following his service in the military, Larry resumed his lifelong passion for education which led him into careers in electronics and aerospace engineering. His passion for aeronautics allowed him to work with the space shuttle program. He then pursued a twenty plus year career testing rocket systems with Lockheed Martin corporation. Following his retirement Larry continued his relationship with co-workers and enjoyed attending Lockheed Martin's Retirees Breakfast Group.
Larry married Sharon DeJong on August 1, 1964 in West Covina California. The couple met at South Hills Church of Christ where they attended many functions together with a large group of friends. The couple welcomed their first child, Kimberly in 1965, Peter in 1972, and Sean in 1979. The family enjoyed camping, game nights, fishing, exploring new places, and time spent together working on various projects at home. Larry cherished special occasions spent with family and friends at home. His many interests included: a lifelong love of astronomy, cars, automobile racing, clock repair, designing and building telescopes, carpentry, research, tinkering and a passion for knowledge.
Larry will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service is scheduled for December 11, 2021 at 10:00am at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. Flowers and condolences can be sent directly to the funeral home.
