Kenneth Elzo Harrison

November 25, 1933 — April 27, 2016

Kenneth Elzo Harrison, 82, of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Ken was born September 25, 1933 in Urbana, Iowa to Elzo and Anna (Kisling/Harrison) White. He graduated from Colo, IA High School in 1951. On September 3, 1953 he married Fern Becvar in Colo, IA. Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War where he deployed with the U.S.S Erben (DD-631) off the Korean Coast. After his discharge from the Navy in 1955 he returned to Iowa where he joined the Iowa Department of Transportation and was employed there for 41 years before retiring. Ken Enjoyed traveling, golf, bowling and following both Iowa State and New Mexico State Athletics. He was active in the Dona Anna County Senior Olympics and the New Mexico State Senior Games as a volunteer and participant. He was competed multiple times at the bi-annual National Senior Games. Ken is survived by his wife Fern; his two sons, David Wayne Harrison (Sheryl) of Woodbury, MN, Jeffery Lee Harrison(Lynne) of Stuttgart, Germany; His sister, Cheri White Fraser (William) of Mountain Home, AR; three grandchildren, Michael, Andrew (Lea), and John Creighton Petro (Chauncy); 3 great grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, and Charlotte Harrison; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzo and Anna, and his brother, Wayne. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, NM 88001 on Tuesday, May 3. Memorial Services for Ken will be at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Las Cruces on Wednesday, May 4 at 10:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the Dona Anna Senior County Olympics (DASCO) in lieu of flowers.
