Kathleen Sue Salazar

April 18, 1950 — September 5, 2023

Kathleen "Katy" Sue Salazar passed away at home on September 5, 2023 at the age of 73. The preliminary cause of death was cardiovascular disease.

Katy was born in El Paso, Texas but moved to California as a child. She attended Soquel High School as well as Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz. Later, she studied broadcast journalism at San Diego State University.

Katy worked for many years for the county of Santa Cruz as a code enforcement officer. An avid collector, she loved antiquing, jewelry making and regularly bought/sold goods at various flea markets and "Mr. Goodies" antique store on the iconic Pacific Garden Mall in downtown Santa Cruz.

Katy loved to dance and do improv. Her story telling was filled with excitement and communicated her love for others and her witty sense of humor.

After retirement she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where she became an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was there where she excelled as a ward missionary and minister, inspiring others to embrace the teaching of the church.

Katy was preceded in death by her mother Paula Pidgeon of Santa Cruz. She is survived by her brother Rhan Wilson, and her sister Margarita Pidgeon. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 6th at 10 am at the Venus Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 3210 Venus St., Las Cruces, NM.
