Kathleen Franey Matthews

Kathleen Franey McGinley Matthews. 71, died Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the Mesilla Valley

Hospice, La Posada. Kathleen was born on May 13, 1952, in Baltimore MD, to Frank W. and

Anne K. McGinley. Kathleen graduated from Las Cruces High School and became a certified nurses aid. She spent most of her professional career at Sagecrest Nursing Home in Las Cruces for over 35 years.

She was beloved by staff and residents for her constantly caring attitude, sense of humor, and quirkiness! Although a carrot-top redhead, she especially enjoyed bright colors; the brighter the better! She was married to David Matthews on December 24, 1974, in Las Cruces. They had a son, Larry Matthews, on September 24, 1975. Unfortunately, Larry was challenged by many childhood illnesses. Larry passed away in March of 1998, preceded by his father who died in June of 1994.

She is survived by her sister Karin McGinley Bloom and her husband David Bloom and daughter Megan McGinley Ericson, brother Kevin McGinley and wife Connie and their children Marshall, Kelly McGinley Salopek, and Ryan. The family's nickname for Kathleen is K-K and she is fondly remembered by all. Her hobbies included playing Bingo, playing Solitaire, and crocheting. Most members of the family have at least one of her creations! She was a devout Catholic and often attended Immaculate Heart of Mary or St. Genevieve parishes.

A Family Celebration of life will take place this Fall.
