June Frederica Hughes (ne Bramley) died after a short illness on December 19th, 2014. She was born in Wiltshire, England on June 4th, 1934, to Frederic and Alice Bramley, joining older sister Joan. Her father was a military man, and she spent her first four years living in India (in an area now part of Pakistan), followed by multiple residences in England and Wales. After education, she became an operating theatre nurse at a London hospital. At a nurses' social, she met the man that was to become her husband, Mike Hughes, and after a whirlwind courtship of 3 years, they were married - a marriage that lasted 51 years until his death last year. Ten years into the marriage, June relocated, with her husband and two children, to Darien, Connecticut and lived happily in Connecticut until retiring with her husband to Las Cruces in 2003, where both were active in the community. June is survived by sons Martin (of New York City) and Simon (of Las Cruces), and grandchildren Matthew and Jennifer (both of Sanford, NC), as well as extended family in the UK. A celebration of June's wonderful life will take place in late January. June was a huge animal lover and, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in June's name, to either the World Wildlife Fund, or Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. PDF Printable Version
