Julia “Julie” Cutler Delzer passed away at home on Monday August 19, 2024, surrounded by friends and family. She was born on January 20, 1951, in Las Cruces, NM to Charles and Carnell Cutler. She spent her entire life living in Las Cruces. Julie attended Valley View Elementary, Lynn Junior High, and Las Cruces High School.
On December 27, 1972, Julie married Terry Delzer at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Las Cruces.
Julie graduated from New Mexico State University in May 1972 with a B.A. in English. After graduation, she was employed at Rountree Cotton Company, and then Wesley Martin Oil Company.
In the Spring of 1976, Julie returned to NMSU to pursue an education degree. She became a certified teacher in the Fall of 1977.
Julie was employed by the Las Cruces Public Schools in the Spring of 1978. She continued working with LCPS until her retirement in May of 2003, during which time she was awarded a M.A. in Teaching.
Not wanting to slow down, Julie continued her education and was awarded an associate’s degree in nursing from Dona Ana Branch Community College in 2005. She worked at Memorial Medical Center until her true retirement in 2012.
The family shares a love for pets. Julie had many dogs and horses, along with peacocks, chickens, and cats. Julie loved to exercise, especially horseback riding and dancing. She also loved to quilt. Julie spent a lot of time making memories with her friends and helped to organize class reunions. Julie enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. She was also a member of the Chi Omega Sorority Alumni.
Julie is survived by her husband Terry, sons Toby and Michael, granddaughter Lexi, sister Carole (Wynne), and nieces Kristen Roybal (Miguel) and Katie Gurule and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Preston Cutler (1997) and Carnell Linton Cutler (2013).
Services will be held at First Baptist Church 4201 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. on Wednesday, August 28th at 10:00am. Presiding will be Dr. Joseph Andrews of FBC. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery 760 S. Compress Rd. A celebration of life will follow at The Game 1 at 2605 S. Espina St.
Pallbearers are Steven Preece, Clint Powell, Buddy Robinson, Garrett Robinson, Robert Soltero, and Donald Wiklund. Honorary Pallbearer will be Chase Curtis.
