Juanita L. Meehan

November 10, 1944 — December 18, 2020

Juanita Louisa "Jennie" Alvidrez Meehan passed away at her home on Friday, December 18, 2020. Her husband Mike and daughter Stacy were at her side. Jennie was born in Brazito, New Mexico in 1944. She proudly called the Mesilla Valley her home for 76 years. She was a caring daughter, incredible mother, loving wife, supportive sister, affectionate grandmother, dedicated employee, and loyal friend. Jennie graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1963 and received a BA from New Mexico State University. Her professional life began at First National Bank of Dona Ana County. After 35 years, she retired as a Trust Officer in the Trust and Investment Services Department. Jennie applied her studies in gerontology to her second career at Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces. She found her initial position as Activities and Services Director, interacting with the residents, to be gratifying and fulfilling. She eventually added the position of Marketing Director to her duties and she retired after 12 years. Her knowledge of the Mesilla Valley and her vitality served her well in her final career as Associate Broker for seven years at RE/MAX Classic Realty. Jennie demonstrated her commitment to community service during her 17 years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Las Alturas Volunteer Fire Department. For 40 years, Jennie was an enthusiastic member of Soroptimist International of Las Cruces. She participated fully in the organization, and held various officer posts, including President. We thank you for the many stories of Jennie's generosity and her warmheartedness. Cooking and entertaining her family and friends at her home gave Jennie much joy. Jennie could often be found in her craft room making jewelry which she lovingly gave to her friends. "Wear your pearls girls". Jennie is survived by her husband of 36 years, Michael Meehan; her daughter, Stacy Lynne Serna-Beecher (Randy) and stepdaughter Amy Elizabeth Meehan; her grandchildren Sydney Luisa Beecher, Blake Carter Beecher, and Alexander Michael Cahhal. She is also survived by her sisters Edna Barela, Rose Yuhas, Priscilla Kliem, Mary Frances Magana, and brother Ruben Alvidrez. Auntie Jennie was loved and admired by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Reyes and Francisca Alvidrez, sister Antonia Alvidrez, brothers Reyes Alvidrez and Henry Alvidres and stepson Darren Meehan. Jennie and her family were comforted by support and compassion from her medical care providers. A special acknowledgment to the staff at Memorial Medical Oncology Department.
