Juan D. 'Johnnie' Anaya

Juan "Johnnie" Diego Anaya passed away at age 87 on Saturday September 7, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Johnnie was born in San Antonio, New Mexico on May 19, 1926 to parents Inez and Pedro Anaya. He had nine brothers and sisters including Dolores Calderon, DeLuvina Lopez, and Evangelio Anaya and a large extended Anaya family. In 1946 he was drafted by the Army to serve his country. He was awarded a victory medal during his time in the service. Johnnie worked in a Dairy Farm, at White Sands Missile Range, and as a painter. He was later employed at New Mexico State University as a custodian for twenty-six years, retiring in 1986. Johnnie took pride in all his hard work and enjoyed helping others. Johnnie enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends, and anybody whom he met. He loved singing to his children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Johnnie survived by Mari E. Anaya, wife of forty-one years, his son John Jr. Anaya and family from previous marriage, and his three adopted daughters: Laura Anaya and husband Javier Gutierrez, grandchildren: Rebecca, Jacob, and Samantha; Marisol Diaz and husband Chris Diaz, grandchild: Delilah; and Yvette Perez. Johnnie Anaya was loved by many and memories will be treasured forever. Johnnies services will be Friday September 13, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 3210 Venus St. with a viewing from 9:00-10:00am and a church service 10:00-11:00am, and his burial at Fort Bliss National Cemetery also on Friday at 2:30pm.
