He was born August 30, 1926 in Long Beach, CA to John and Myrtle Shearman. After being severely wounded during WWII and subsequently honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he became a rancher and started his family in Magdalena, NM. Ranching was a lifetime dream and passion, but five years of drought caused him to sell his ranch and go to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company, from which he retired in 1981. He is survived by his loving wife Marlys of Las Cruces, NM; son John and wife Sharon of Tucson, AZ; daughter Suzanne of Tucson, AZ; niece Sara Wagner of Las Cruces, NM; stepdaughters Verna Jessie and husband Jerry of El Paso, TX, and Carrie Arrington and husband Scott of Kerrville, TX; grandchildren Scott and Valerie Shearman of Denver, CO, and Cordelia and Samantha Shearman of Kenedy, TX; step grandchildren Hillary Olivas and husband Jimmy of El Paso, TX, and Shane Georges of El Paso, TX; step great-grandchildren Ashlyn and James Olivas of El Paso, TX; as well as his faithful four-legged companion, Buddy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joann Wagner, brother Jim Shearman, wife Jean Shearman and son William "Wild Bill" Shearman. Jack and Marlys loved the great southwest and have lived in El Paso, TX, Prescott, AZ, Kerrville, TX, Tucson, AZ, and Las Cruces, NM. Jack was an avid golfer and had a great eye for the golf swing which helped his wife and son John immensely. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 am on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Basilica of San Albino in Mesilla, NM with Rev. Richard Catanach officiating. Fierro, 1280 Med Park Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88005.
