John Franklin Lang

August 21, 1943 — June 30, 2011

John Franklin Lang passed away on June 30th, 2011 at La Posada, Las Cruces, New Mexico, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was 67 years old at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Franklin Lang, his mother, Alma (Upchurch) Lang, and his brother Robert Lang. John was born in Ballinger, Texas to Benjamin Franklin and Alma Lang on August 21, 1943. He graduated from Denver City High School, Denver City, TX in 1961. He moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where he attended NMSU and resided until, the time of his death. John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Edna Lang, his son Stephen, daughter-in-law Melissa, granddaughter Brianna, numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends. John spent six years serving his country in the military where he was a member of Special Forces. He was retired from the NASA White Sands Test Facility in 2009. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast and a renowned gunsmith and wildlife guide. He cherished his time spent in his beloved mountain of New Mexico. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held for John at 2:00 pm on Tuesday July 5, 2011at Getz Funeral Home.
