John C. Thomas

John C. Thomas, 93, of Las Cruces, NM died Saturday February 11, 2006. He was born November 30, 1912 to John and Alice Thomas, a pioneer family of Holiday, TX. John accomplished many things throughout his life. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Accounting as well as being named a four-year letterman for Texas Tech University. He was a professor at Texas Christian University as well as maintaining two full time jobs to support his family. John later accepted a major accounting position with Chevron Oil Co. in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa. After returning home he installed the fist computer systems at Memorial General Hospital. John and his wife Icy were later awarded for Outstanding Missionary work for the Church of Christ. He was highly respected by family, friends, and peers. John is survived by his son John and wife Carol Thomas of Canton, GA; daughter Marilyn and husband Larry Baron of Ruidoso, NM, six grandchildren John IV, Dawn, Mark, Mike, Holly, Laura and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Icy, two brothers Willet Thomas, Ansel Thomas, and one sister Beatrice Parish. A visitation will be held at Getz Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, February 13, 2006. Graveside Service's are at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 10 AM.
