John A Johnson

On January 27, 2011, John Johnson (Papa) was called to his Father in Heaven. He passed away at home surrounded by those who love him. Born on December 25th 1925 in Red River New Mexico to Calvin and Alba Johnson, John was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy on the USS Putman. Once out of the service he moved frequently and made every place his home. Casa Grande, AZ, Showlow, AZ, Eloy, AZ, Tempe, AZ, Hobbs, NM, Snowflake, AZ, and Las Cruces, NM. He was active in his Church serving as teacher, song leader, deacon, and elder. Papa will be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes, quick wit and laughter. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mildred Johnson, daughter Joyce and husband Ron Kolkmeyer of Showflake AZ, daughter Carolyn and husband Wes McCabe of Stillwater, OK, son John and wife Reba Johnson of Las Cruces NM, 10 Grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, one brother, Homer Johnson in California, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Papa will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Viewing will be at Getz Funeral from 5-7 pm on Monday, January 31, 2011. Funeral Services will be at the Las Cruces Church of Christ 2025 N. Valley Drive in Las Cruces, NM at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Burial will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, Ft.
