Jose “Joe” Eligio Ortiz, 55 years old, died July 18, 2024. He died in El Paso, TX at Providence Hospitals, Sierra Campus.
Joe was born November 8, 1968 on Kinchole AFB, Michigan, in the town of Sault Ste. Marie, MI to his parents, Melchor Jalomo Ortiz and Delia Salinas Ortiz, (both deceased). He is survived by 4 sisters-Teresa Ramirez (Manuel-deceased) of Roswell, NM; Cynthia Dominguez (Alvin) of Las Cruces, NM, Mary Margaret Ortiz, and Sylvia Garica both of Roswell, NM. Married to Sandra Ortiz on March 16, 1990 in Roswell, NM. Father to 2 sons, Benjamin Joseph Ortiz and Elijah Joe Ortiz all of the family home in Las Cruces, NM.
He graduated from Roswell High School in 1986. He attended ENMU-Portales for a couple semesters. He returned to school in 2005 via on line learning. He graduated from Colorado Technical University, Magna Cum Laude, in November 2007 with his Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting. He worked for Ebbs, Roberts and Daw for almost 9 years as an accountant for the firm.
In his youth, Joe played little league baseball, was a boy scout, and served as an alter server at his church, St. Peter’s Catholic parish in Roswell. In high school he played football and ran track. After graduation he worked odd jobs until he worked for TMC. He coached youth soccer for a couple seasons in the early 2000’s. After that he began training with his sons in Karate. In 2015 Joe earned his black belt in Karate with Blue Dragon Dojo. Joe was a wonderful family man and loved his wife and sons dearly. He had great faith in God and was loyal, kind, and funny. Joe was an avid movie watcher especially the Marvel Comic Universe. He also loved to take a nap anytime, anywhere. He was a fierce friend who had many who loved him. Joe also has a large family that will miss his boisterous voice, laughter and passion. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife, sons, sisters, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved parents-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and two maternal aunts.
Rosary to be held Monday, July 29,2024 at Getz Funeral Home at 9am. Funeral Mass to be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery East. Reception at 1pm at Desert Devil CrossFit Gym. Pallbearers are: Benjamin Ortiz, Elijah Ortiz, Alejandro Ortiz, Michael Ramirez, Anthony Dominguez, Gregorio Chavez, and Adrian Carrillo.
