Joe M. Gutierrez, 81 "Poppy", our earth angel has spread his wings to the heavenly gates above. On August 7, 2016 in Las Cruces NM. He was born to Lazaro B Gutierrez and Adela Morales-Gutierrez on June 20, 1935 in Salem NM. He was the youngest of five siblings, and received most of his education at Hatch Valley High. He provided decades of service to his community throughout the Mesilla Valley. He enjoyed gardening, playing pool, he loved cheating his way to victory in a game of monopoly against his grandchildren, and he loved playing cards. He was married to Hilda Vega on September 12, 1954 in Garfield NM. They had three children that they raised in Hatch, NM. A very special person has left an imprint in the lives of all who were touched by him and will be missed by so many. He is survived by his three children, Berlinda Carlson of Las Cruces, NM, Ronald and Marlene Gutierrez of Washington State, and Tammie Gutierrez of Las Cruces, NM. Grandchildren Desarae and Jacob Dohogne of San Antonio TX, Breanna and Dominic Arvizu of San Antonio TX, Marissa Gutierrez of St. Augustine FL, and Sean Carlson of Albuquerque NM. He is preceded in death by his wife Hilda of 50 years, and his siblings Concha Gutierrez, Cresencio Gutierrez, Juan Gutierrez, and Victor Gutierrez. Pall bearers will be Armando Gutierrez, Randy Torrez, Lee Martinez, Dominic Arvizu, Jacob Dohogne, and Rodley Doran. Honorary pall bearers Richy Leva, Rodolfo Trujillo, Leroy Madrid, Huero Lara, Tony Pinedo, Manuel Padilla and Isidero Alvarez. A Prayer vigil will be held at 7pm at Our Lord of Mercy in Hatch NM on Friday August 12, 2016. A Church service will be held at 10am, Saturday, August 13th at Our Lord of Mercy and interment will follow at Garden of Memory Cemetery.
