Joe Fred Butler

Joe Fred Butler, 94, a lifelong resident of Mesilla Valley passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Joe Fred was born October 29, 1928, in Mesilla, NM to Norberto and Josephine Butler. Joe Fred was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his country and was honorably discharged in June of 1950. On July 5, 1954, Joe Fred married Hortencia Valles and remained her husband until death, they celebrated seventy-two years altogether. Joe Fred worked for White Sands Missile Range where he retired. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years. In his younger years enjoyed family time and days at the farm which later became his residence. Joe Fred and his wife spent their retirement with family, friends and dancing. Last days enjoyed the view of the Organ Mountains from his front porch with his loved ones. There are no words to describe the loss felt by those of us who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Hortencia Butler; son Gary Butler and wife Fatima of Las Cruces, daughter Deborah Brown and husband Robert of Las Cruces, and daughter-in-law Yvonne Butler of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren Jerrod (Kimberly) Butler, Valerie Martinez, Michelle Martinez, Justin (Marissa) Butler, Donald (Cindy) Martinez, John Butler, Ronny (Samantha) Martinez, Jacqueline (Brad) Douglas, and Mark Anthony; great-grandchildren Devon, Jaden, Tristen, Taryn, Mia, Sean, Isaac Noah, Luke Hunter, Hadley Grace, and Joziah. Joe Fred is now united with many loved ones including his daughter Yvonne Marie, son Mark Anthony, sisters Mary Ann Gonzales, Dolores Brooks, Eileen Montano, and brother Robert Butler. A visitation will be held on January 6, 2023, with a visitation at 9:30 am, rosary beginning at 10:30 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1285 S. Espina Las Cruces, NM with Father Alejandro. Rite of Committal will be held immediately after at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho Ave. Reception will follow at the IHM Parish Hall. Pallbearers will be Joe Fred's grandson's and great grandson Tristen. First Visitation
