Joe Benjamin Valles

Joe Benjamin Valles, age 62, entered eternal life on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He fought long and hard to the end as he did throughout his life. Benjie, as he was fondly known to family and friends, was born into this world on July 13, 1954 to Macario Valles and Maria Herrera in Las Cruces, NM, where he was also raised. Benjie had many interests in life, but his favorite was playing acoustic guitar and boxing. He taught himself to play and later joined a band, with his close friends, called The Shades of Night. He enjoyed listening to oldies and often played the guitar and sang to his children at bedtime when they were younger. When the neighborhood kids came over to visit, he always had a boxing move or two to show them. Although, all those kids are now adults, they will never forget all the lessons Benjie taught them. In his free time, you could find him doing a word search or coloring black and white photos and bringing them to life with some color. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his three children, Lori Valles (Ray); Norma Valles (Felipe); and Johnny Valles (Susan); sixteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His sisters Elizabeth Valles, Cindy Valles Ramirez, and brother Ray Valles. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. As well as his extended Howard family in Colorado, his "Flaca," Pat, and best friend Nick Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, both his parents, brother Jerry Valles, his baby sister who passed away at birth, and son Joe Valles, Jr. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
