Jesusita M. Herrera Profile Photo

Diosito loaned us our Mom, Jesusita M. Herrera, from June 10, 1938 to March 11, 2009. We are humbled and blessed to have had her as our Mom. A native of Las Cruces, Mom was both Mom and Dad to Sheila, Gracie, Elizabeth (Guera), Jennifer, Peter, & Jessica. She was Gramma Jessie to Monica & Michelle. And Great Gramma to Drizzt, Amoray, Raenan, Kyra, Kaelub, Nora, Marriah & Kaden. Mom loved all her kids beyond measure and unconditionally. To Mom there was no distinction amongst her kids. Mom exuded love; just ask anyone who came in contact with her. Whether you knew her as "Mama Chuy", "Mama Bear", "Mama J", "Madre", or "Chupie" one thing was certain, she was always ready to be your Mom, too. Mom suffered long, but through it all held steadfast to the words of Paul in the book of Philippians, "Todo lo puedo en Cristo quien me fortaleze." (Phil. 4:13). We're sure Mom would have wanted us to encourage you to do the same. Mom was an avid Mariachi fan who also sang with various Mariachi bands when we lived in Phoenix. Mom was preceded in death by her father and mother, Manuel Herrera and Ysidra Martinez; her sister Julie, her brother Francisco, and her daughter Elizabeth (Guera). She is survived by her kids; her sons-in-laws, Pete and Francisco; her sisters Nellie, Josie, Rosie, Cruzita, Maria Dolores (Lola), Maria Magdalena, and Juanita; our Tia Angie; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend Lolita. A memorial service will be given Tuesday March 17, 2009 at 10 AM at the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Officiating will be Fr. Ricardo Hinojal. A private family committal of the cremains will take place at another date. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mom's name to the New Mexico Commission for the Blind, 2200 Yale Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 or the National Kidney Foundation, 3167 San Mateo Blvd. NE #162 Albuquerque, NM 87110-1921. Please specify that your gift be used in the Las Cruces area. The family also wishes to express sincere gratitude to the following doctors and their staff: Dr. Caglia, Dr. Corro, Dr. Deetz, Dr. Iqbal, Dr. Keller, Dr. Leon, Dr. McGuire, and Dr. Velasquez. Thanks to Omar, Mike, Carmen, & Judy at the dialysis center (Fresinius), and her many homecare givers. Thanks also to the Corporacion de Los Indigenes de Nuestra Se
