James R. Smith

James R. Smith, 73, of Chaparral, NM died Thursday, March 19, 2009. He was born July 7, 1935 in Luling, TX to Robert and Lula Kirkland Smith. James was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard where he served his country honorably; he was also a retired Chief Deputy with the U.S. Marshal's Office after 27 years of faithful service. He enjoyed making jewelry, was an artist and painter but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. James is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Rosemary of the family home; sons Scott Smith and James Smith both of El Paso, TX and Chad Smith and wife Donna of Yuma, AZ; sister Barbara Patterson and husband Tom of Longview, TX; grandchildren Keaton, Collin, Haley, Tyler, Brady and Garrett. Also surviving him are nieces, nephews and cousins. James was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services to celebrate his life will be at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Woods of Coronado Baptist Church in El Paso, TX. officiating.
