James Carlin Bradley was born March 8, 1933 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was 82 years old when he died surrounded by his family on August 12, 2015 in Las Cruces, NM. Jim Bradley was born and raised in Las Cruces by a pioneer Las Cruces family. His grandfather, Lee was superintendent of the County School, 1898-1900; grandmother, Mary Woodson and mother Corine were both principals of Grandview Elementary, which was later, renamed Bradley Elementary, then later torn down. His father, Harry was one of among the first Bulldog Booster Club Presidents when Rudy Camunez was the head coach. James was married to Phyllis Elaine (Longwill) Bradley on September 21, 1965 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He graduated from LCHS in 1951, received a Bachelor's Degree from NMSU in 1955, and a master's in 1971. He previously coached at Las Cruces High School (1958 - 65) as an Assistant Football and Head Baseball Coach. He then was Head Football Coach at Mayfield High School from 1965 until 1972, with a record of 55-22-6. He was the head football coach at NMSU from 1973-77, with a record of 23-31-1, then the Head Football Coach at Roswell High School from 1980 until 1993 with a record of 123-43-3. He headed back to Mayfield High School as Head Coach in 1994 continued in that position until 2005 with a record of 132-23. His overall coaching record was 310 - 88 - 9 which made him the most winning high school football coach in 2005. Coach Bradley won numerous awards in coaching. He was named New Mexico Coach of the Year multiple times, served as the President of the NM High School Coaches Association 1986-87, was inducted to the NM High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 1990, received the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year Award in 1996, received the Ralph Boyer Character Coach of the Year in 2004, and was inducted into the NMSU Hall of Fame. He was also the recipient of the Aggie Cornerstone Award given by the NMSU College of Education in 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. Bradley and Corine (Woodson) Bradley and his brother Harry "Buddy" Bradley and wife JoAnn. He is survived by his brother Charles Bradley and wife Jody. Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis E. Bradley, children James C. Bradley Jr. and wife DeAnna, Deborah Banegas and husband Jeffrey, Michael L. Bradley and wife Shannon, and Gary C. Bradley and wife Dana; Grandchildren Jordan, Jenna, Krystyn, David, Michaela, Shawn, Morgan, Trevor, Marissa, and Amber; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. There will be a visitation at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Sunday, August 16 from 6:00PM - 7:00PM with a rosary immediately following at 7:00PM. The funeral mass will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Monday, August 17 at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Columbarium at a later date and time.
