Issac G. Lopez

July 7, 1937 — March 3, 2005

Isaac G. Lopez Sr., 67, was called to be with the Holy Family on March 3, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Isaac was born to Maximiliano and Gregorita Lopez on July 7, 1937 at the location where Lake Sumner, NM stands today. He was raised in nearby Ft. Sumner where he graduated from Ft Sumner High School in 1956. Isaac was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and he served honorably during the Cuban Missile Crisis under President John F. Kennedy. Isaac moved to Las Cruces and he met and fell in love with the former Sally Barreras. They were married on December 11, 1965 and they joyfully welcomed five children into the world. Isaac retired from the State of New Mexico as an Inspector for the Department of Transportation. He was a very hard working man who spent his life working on or around big rigs, which he loved doing. Isaac's greatest accomplishment was raising his five children in a strong faith in God and his dedication to working hard for his family. Isaac is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sally Lopez, of the family home. Daughter Alice Carabajal lives in Las Cruces along with her life partner Danny Morales and her children Adrian Coe, Savannah, Ariane, and Jade Carabajal with youngest child Adam Morales, Daughter Anna Maria Lopez from Las Cruces has two children Jazmin and Brandon Lopez. Daughter Elizabeth Warpula also lives in Las Cruces with her husband Todd and children Erika and Paul Isaac. Isaac is survived by two sons, Isaac B. Lopez II, his life partner Susan Wilkinson, and children Jacqueilyn and Ezequiel. Son Jose (Joe) Felis Lopez resides in Denver with his wife, Debbie and his daughter Elleana. Isaac is also survived by a large number of sisters and brothers. Sisters Trudy Preece, Yolanda Knodle, and Betty Jo Montalvo reside in Las Cruces. Sisters Maria Chavez and Rita Gallegos live in Ft. Sumner. Sister Esther Segura Lives in Roswell, NM, Sister Francis Potts of Tipton, Oklahoma, and Velen Anthony of Albuquerque. Bothers Justo (Jay) and Richard Lopez reside in Ft Sumner with Bother Maximiliano Jr. in Texas and Brother Bobby Ray in Colorado. A special Aunt, his second mother, Eloisa Lopez lives in Ft. Sumner. He is preceded in death by his parents and one Granddaughter, Brittani Alexandra. Isaac will lie in state on Sunday, March 6, 2005 beginning at 6:00 pm. A prayer vigil will follow at 7:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. A second prayer vigil will be held in Ft Sumner at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church on Monday, March 7 2005 at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Ft Sumner, NM on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 10:00 am and he will be laid to rest at Ft. Sumner Cemetery.
