Iris Louisa Meyers Profile Photo

Mrs. Iris Louisa Meyers passed away at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Tuesday February 21, 2017. Iris was born on March 23, 1930 in Plymouth, England to Edward and Maud Coleman. A lovely vase of irises inspired her name. In 1948 Iris boarded the Queen Mary in Southampton, and set sail for New York City and a new life in America! In 1956 she met and married John B. Meyers, a young Army Intelligence agent. His 33 year Army career kept their family moving, but coming back several times to New Mexico and eventually retiring to Las Cruces. No matter where Iris called home her unique sassy, fun loving, out-going charm endeared her to many. She loved reading, dancing, music, her family, her friends, her volunteer work for the Red Cross, Pilot Club, and Veteran causes, her career with First National Bank, and traveling, and oh how she loved to travel! Iris had a very personal, private and abiding faith, one that saw her through life's difficult moments. Her enduring legacy will be the many lives she has touched and changed, and we treasure her memory. Iris leaves behind her children John E. Meyers (Patricia), Sylvia A. Meyers-Grace (John), David S. Meyers (Suzanne) and Carol J. Meyers-Gray, 10 grandchildren: Emily and Matthew Meyers; Kyle, Aaron and Zachary Grace; Claire, Philip and Brynne Meyers; Brittany Greene Williams (Chris) and Nicholas Greene. Two great grand children: Carson and Aaliah N. Williams and her adopted family the Mattiaces. Preceded in death by her husband John B. Meyers, father Edward Coleman, mother Maud Coleman, sister Margaret Coleman Edgecombe, and brother Edward Coleman. Iris will be interred at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with her husband John B. Meyers on Friday March 3, 2017, attended by immediate family and close friends. All who knew Iris and wish to join the family in celebration of a life well lived are welcome to attend a memorial service Saturday, March 4th.
