Iona H. Schafer

Iona H. Schafer, 94 of Las Cruces, NM died Saturday January 1, 2005 at home. Iona was born May 10, 1910 in Harrisburg, Illinois to John and Ardina Nolen. She contributed time and effort to the Red Cross during World War II and was also very active at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Muskegon Michigan. Iona was a resident of Las Cruces for the last seven years and was a member of Mission Lutheran Church. Iona is survived by her daughter Linda Musselman Comeau and her husband, Paul of Las Cruces; and four grandchildren, Michelle Albers of Walled Lake, Michigan, Edward Schafer of Twin Lake, Michigan, Ronald Schafer of Muskegon, Michigan and Christine McClurken of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Iona was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Schafer and a son Ronald Schafer. Iona's family are especially grateful for the love and care provided by Iona's caregivers, Leonor Saria, Linda Woods, Maria Clark and Glinda Ziehl; also, from Home Kare Inc, Joyce Anglin, Christie Chapman and Val Teixeira. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Mission Lutheran Church, 2752 Roadrunner Parkway, Las Cruces. The Funeral Service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Robert Carabotta officiating. At the family's request, cremation will follow with inurnment of her ashes in Clark Cemetery in Fremont, Michigan.
