Inocencia Ureño Romero, was 98 when she passed into Eternal Life on Sunday, January 26, 2025. She was born to Nestor and Tiburcia Ureño in Standard, California although her family was from Zacatecas. During the Great Depression her family returned to live in Zacatecas. She attended school there and came back to the U.S. in her twenties. She was a long-time resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Inocencia was a very creative homemaker. She was artistic and enjoyed gardening, making ceramics, cooking Mexican foods. One of the things she loved to do was socializing with relatives and eating delicious Mexican food. She competed in billiard tournaments and won. She also attended church services on Sunday. She was a longtime volunteer at the Munson center. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Lauriano Romero. She is survived by one sister, four children, four grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family feels lucky to have had her as long as they did, but no matter how long, it was not long enough. Inocencia will be missed terribly but her family is comforted with a life-time of treasured memories.
Inocencia’s funeral service is handled by Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88001. A public viewing will be on Tuesday, Feb. 04, 2025, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The funeral service will be held in the Getz Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 04, 2025, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
