Humberto 'Tito' Vasquez

November 19, 1962 — June 24, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Humberto "Tito" Vasquez, age 54, on Saturday June 24, 2017. Tito was born in Las Cruces, NM on November 19, 1962 to Humberto S. and Connie P. Vasquez of Las Cruces. After a brief hospitalization, Tito succumbed to a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His circumstances were unexpected and extreme, but he faced his fate with courage and dignity through to the very end. He was raised in Las Cruces, and upon graduation from Las Cruces High School, Tito moved with the Vasquez family to Los Angeles, CA where he began a career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After several years he moved to the town of Grants, New Mexico, where he continued as a letter carrier and started a family. He eventually returned to his native Las Cruces where he spent the remainder of his life. For the last 12 years Tito enjoyed his time working in the Housing Department at New Mexico State University. Tito was truly a unique character. While typically quiet and serious, he also had an unusual sense of humor that had to be experienced to be appreciated. He was an avid concertgoer while in Los Angeles, and a hardcore sports fan his entire life. He rooted for USC Trojan football, the LA Dodgers, San Antonio Spurs and San Francisco 49ers. He had a knack for catching fish and enjoyed his summer fishing trips. Those left to mourn his passing are his daughters Veronica and Connie Vasquez and his granddaughter Destiny, his longtime companion Virginia Reyes, his mother Connie Vasquez, sisters Gloria Rios (husband Luis), Juli Castillo (husband Teofilo "Junior"), and Guadalupe Arellano (husband Joseph) and his brother, Victor Vasquez. Other survivors include his nephews, his niece, great nephews and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Humberto S. Vasquez and nephew Teo Castillo. Special thanks to his co-workers and friends at NMSU for their concern and support. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, July 7, 2017 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. PDF Printable Version Service Information
