Hope K. Newhouse

Hope Kinzer Newhouse, 83 born in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee on December 12, 1927 and a resident of Las Cruces, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 28, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Hope earned Masters in Art Education and Elementary Education, at the University of New Mexico. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority for 65 years. Before retiring to Las Cruces, Hope was an elementary school teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools. A talented artist, Hope won many awards and honors for her colorful paintings. She was a member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. In her passion for art, the southwest was brought to life in beautiful hues. New Mexico mission churches, flowers and birds were among some of Hopes' favorite scenes to capture in an array of vivid watercolor. Displays of her work have been featured at the Mesilla Valley Fine Art Gallery in Las Cruces as well as numerous exhibits around the state. Hope is survived by son, Daniel and wife Helen Newhouse of Los Alamos; daughter Marcia and husband Bryn Davis of Las Cruces; four grandchildren; Brian Cave and wife Chanel, Heather Newhouse, Dylan Davis, Darby Davis; brother, John and sister in law Eleanor Kinzer of Albuquerque; nieces and nephews, John Kinzer and wife Marcie of Albuquerque, and Mary K. Johnson and husband Dick of Clancy, Montana. Married for 61 years to her "Sweet William"; "Bill Newhouse", a graduate of UNM, preceded Hope in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by nephew David Kinzer. A graveside memorial will take place on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
