Henry Ambrose Read

HENRY AMBROSE READ, 80, a fifty-year resident of Las Cruces passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Henry was born on December 7, 1929 to Henry P. Read and Josephine Ortega Read in Ysleta, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Read. He is survived by five children from his marriage to Eleanor Murillo Read; Cynthia and husband Patrick Romero of Las Cruces, David Read and wife Rosalee of Albuquerque, Charles Read and wife Gretchen of Broomfield, Colorado, Thomas Read of Phoenix, Arizona and Joseph Read of Las Cruces; five grandchildren; Leah and Eric Romero, Corey Read and Megan and Miranda Read. He is also survived by four brothers; Edward, George, John and Joe Read all residing in the El Paso area. Henry grew up in Ysleta and joined the Air Force out of high school. He was extremely proud of his time spent serving his country as a Technical Sergeant. Henry worked for Standard Oil Company in El Paso for 10 years before moving to Las Cruces to begin work in the dairy industry with the American Breeders Service. This eventually led to a job managing the Taylor Dairy north of Las Cruces which he enjoyed for many years. He also served as the Dona Ana County Manager and was an active member and Past President of the Las Cruces Big Band Dance Club. Henry had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed dancing, political discussions and football. Cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27th at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 South Solano Drive in Las Cruces.
