Helen Shirley Ruth Holsome Lewis was born November 8, 1943 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Orlean and Samuel V. Holsome, who preceded her in death. Helen was the third of seven children born to this union. She was affectionately known to many as "Shirley". She attended school in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School. She pursued higher education at New Mexico State University and California State University, Los Angeles, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Shirley was a lifelong learner and was continuously taking classes to further her theological and metaphysical knowledge and even took yoga classes to stay in shape. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and was faithful in worshipping the Lord and meditating on a daily basis. She touched many lives through her evangelical spirit and shared God's Word with everyone she came in contact with. She moved to California many years ago and married Will Lewis at a young age. There were no children from this union. After they parted, she was united with Gary Cabiness until her untimely death. Shirley began her career at Aerospace Technogies, and then worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District, and later the Los Angeles County Hospital. Paramount to Shirley's goals and dreams, were to work in the law enforcement field. Finally, in 1990 she worked for the Los Angeles County Probation Department where she was currently employed as a Deputy Probation Officer II. She served in the Intensive Supervision Program as well as in the Child Threat and Family Violence Units. She enjoyed working with her colleagues as well as with her clients, whom she treated as if they were her own family. She also served as acting supervisor in her department whenever she was asked. Her vibrant personality, infectious laughter and beautiful smile brightened up her office and every where she went. Although Shirley didn't give birth to any children, she had many that she mothered and mentored. She has touched many lives and helped to heal many people, of all ages, through prayer,
