Hector Samaniego

August 9, 1934 — November 30, 2009

Deacon Hector Samaniego joined our Lord on November 30, 2009, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was undergoing treatment at the hands of Dr. Constance Wash for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Sadly, he succumbed to the treatment. Deacon Samaniego was born in El Paso, TX on August 9, 1934 to Leonardo Samaniego & Carmen Seivers. He was the youngest of 10 siblings. He graduated from El Paso High School. He joined the US Air Force where he served his country proudly. He went on to earn his BA in Media in 1959, followed by a Master's Degree in Public Administration. After many years of service as Chief of Labor & Management at White Sands Missile Range, he retired in 1992. He started Law School that same year and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 1996. He was awarded the honors in Clinical Law and the Margaret Keiper Dailey Award in Law. In 2003, he was ordained Deacon which was his passion and true calling. He is survived by his former wife and friend, Ofelia Garcia, his children Reina Acosta, Catherine Thompson and Eryka Garcia-Samaniego, and grandchildren, Arianna Acosta and Analyssa Acosta. He is also survived by sisters, Teresa Cordero, Marie Luisa Provencio, Chris Woods, and one brother, Gustavo Samaniego and many nieces and nephews. Those who had the pleasure of having him in their lives know Hector was kind, compassionate, heart warming, honorable, loving and patient. A visitation will be held Sunday December 6, 2009 from 6-7 PM at the Immaculate Heart of Marry Cathedral followed by a rosary at 7 PM also at the Cathedral. Mass will be given Monday December 6, 2009 at 10 AM. The rite of committal will follow at 2:30 PM at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in Ft. Bliss, TX. Officiating will be the Most Rev. Ricardo Ram
