Harry Edward "Ed" Davis Jr. of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 28, 2016 at age 52. He was born February 4, 1964 in St. Claire, Michigan to Harry Edward Davis Sr. and Gail Patricia Davis. Ed enlisted in the Navy straight out of high school and served for 20 years on the USS Long Beach, the USS Gary and the USS Horne. He was also an instructor at the naval training center in San Diego, California. He was called to duty in Operation Desert Storm and he received numerous awards and medals, including the Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. He retired from active duty on February 28, 2003. After he retired, he entered civil service. He was a systems instructor in Charleston, South Carolina for the Taiwanese transfer project. After that, he moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2006 where he worked on White Sands Missile Range as a radar technician with the Navy. Ed was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed watching football, baseball and Nascar and spending time with his family. Ed is survived by his wife Cathy, two daughters, Kristen and Jennifer, father Harry Edward Davis Sr. and Gail Davis, sisters Paulette Silva of Tucson, Arizona and Katherine Farthing and husband Brian of El Dorado, Kansas and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A viewing and a rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 5pm at the Getz Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at the White Sands Post Chapel Wednesday April 6, 2016 at 10 am, with a reception to follow. Full military honors and burial will be held at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas at 2:30 pm.
