Gloria Etta Williams Pettes, 52, of Las Cruces, was born on August 31, 1954 in San Diego, California to Lucille and Rafe Williams. Better known to her family as "Baby Sis", Gloria was the youngest of her mother's 25 births. Gloria was brought up on the streets of San Diego, California. She graduated from San Diego High School. At a young age Gloria took on the responsibility of caring for her grandmother, uncle, and nephew. Later on she took care of her father and mentally ill sister. Gloria married Grover Lee Pettes, Jr., son of Grover and Laura Pettes. Her four greatest accomplishments in this world were her four children, Gerald, Monjah, Clay Sr., and Taisha. In 1989, Gloria and Grover Jr. moved their family to Las Cruces, New Mexico where she was employed by Las Cruces Nursing Home and Memorial Medical Center, where she retired. Retired and bored, she took on the task of aiding in raising her grandchildren, Shaquelle, Destiny, Abel, Angel, Clay, Jr., Kaelani, Phajja, Kiana, Tariq, Jamacia, and Lyric. These little ones keep Gloria's spirit young. The loud noise and laughter kept her going. She loved and cherished her eleven grandchildren. There were times that all eleven grandchildren lived with her. Down to her last days they helped their grandma as much as possible. Due to her illness and struggle with life, Gloria was called to rest on May 21, 2007. She leaves behind her husband Grover, Jr. of the family home; daughters Monjah Pettes (Steve Settles) of Las Cruces and Taisha Cox (Mark Cox) of Los Lunas, NM; son Clay Pettes, Sr. (Debra Perry Pettes) of Las Cruces, NM; brother Lewis Williams of San Diego, CA; her eleven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Pearlee Grant, sister Loretta Williams, son Gerald Lee Pettes, brother Bobby Ray Williams, Sr., and nephews Todd Allen Williams Sr., Todd Allen Williams, Jr., and Darryl Daniels. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday May 28, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 29, 2007 in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
