Glenn E. Remick, 84, went to meet his Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Glenn was born in Canton, Ohio and grew up in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and honorably and faithfully served his country for 27 years. During his time in the Army, Glenn served during the Korean conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during combat. He also earned a Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and several Good Conduct Medals amongst other military decorations. After retiring from the United States Army he went to work for the New Mexico State University bookstore as Supply Manager. After helping many NMSU students to achieve their higher education goals, Glenn retired from NMSU in 1992. Glenn married Eiko Shirai from Tokyo, Japan in 1956. He often joked that while many Soldiers brought back souvenirs from overseas he brought back the love of his life. Indeed, they lived together and shared each other's company for the next 58 years. Glenn always stayed physically active. He began running and bicycling after his Army retirement. He ran numerous marathons and participated in dozens of bicycling events. Glenn won numerous awards in both sports and continued his lifestyle into the senior Olympics where he consistently earned more medals. Glenn was an active member of his community and was very devoted to the Saint Genevieve Church in Las Cruces. Glenn is survived by his wife Eiko and their three dogs Casey, Hanako, and Lucky. Visitation will be at Getz Funeral Home Tuesday, April 21 from 10-11 A.M.. Glenn will receive full military honors in a private interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. He was a huge advocate of pets rescue and adoptions from local animal shelters. In his memory, please consider making a donation to any of the local animal shelters in lieu of sending flowers.
