Gary A Sandon

Gary A. Sandon left this life, surrounded by loving family, after a lengthy illness at the age of 79. Gary was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He managed Freeborn Foods in Albert Lea, MN until he retired. He loved dogs, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He often told stories of the wonderful memories made during these trips. In July 1997, Gary married the love of his life, Carol, and they began their journey through life together. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Carol Phillips Sandon; three children Lisa Herfendal (Larry), Jill Dines (Bruce), David Sandon; two step children Mark Phillips (Patty), and Lauren Phillips (Jo Richards); 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Dunn (Leo) and Linda Church (Tom Dreher). He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Mary Sandon and Judy Sandon. A special thank you to his care givers, Cindi Peterson and Dayana Olivas from Home Instead, Dr. Shambhag -Pai, and the staff at Hospice including his nurses Ginny, Valerie, Courtney, Susan, and Jackie. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 AM, Monday, January 16, 2017, at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church.
