Fred E Riggs

Fred E. Riggs, 90, was called to heaven on November 9, 2021. Fred was born to Fred S. Riggs and Rose B. Riggs in Prescott, Arizona on July 12, 1931. Fred married Betty Jo Davis on October 21, 1949 they settled in Derry, NM where they raised four boys. Through thick and thin they never left each other's side. For 72 years their life revolved around their family and friends; farming, hunting, fishing, playing hand and foot, going to the coffee shop, hosting corn parties and fish fries. At every get together, no matter the game being played, he was always right there playing along.

In his early ventures Fred and his father, his brother, Ernest, and his brother-in-law, Pete Gillis, built the first chili dehydration facility in the Hatch Valley. They also roasted, peeled and marketed fresh, green chili statewide. In addition to farming chili, cotton and alfalfa, Fred branched out and raised ostriches and "retired" in his pecan orchards.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Rose Riggs, his son Freddie Paul Riggs, his brother Ernest Riggs, and his great-grandson Gary Edward Green.

He left behind his wife Betty, sisters, Mary Gillis (Pete) and Dorothy Gillis (Lonnie); sons, Gary Don (Chris), Leslie Wade (Cheryl) and Allen Vance (Beth); eleven grandchildren, Jason Riggs (Kendra), Jennifer Green (Joshua), Denise Rosser (Bryan), Clinton Riggs (Lynell), Amie Green (Ryan), Shane Riggs (Heather), Dusty Riggs (Jody), Brett Riggs (Randa), Stacy Riggs (Klay), Jessica Taylor (Cody) and Kimberly Archer (Brent); thirty-one great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Fred lived a full life, he was loved and respected by everyone he met, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and touched many lives. The last thing he told his boys was, "love each other, that's what it's all about." He will be greatly missed.

A Graveside service will be held at Garden of Memories in Hatch, NM on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:30am.
