Fannie Paz Serna

July 28, 1915 — December 29, 2005

Fannie Paz Serna, 90, of Las Cruces, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005. She was born July 28, 1915 in Las Cruces to Gabriel and Francisca Calderon Paz. Fannie was a pioneer of the Mesilla Valley where she was involved in many community activities. She had been very active in politics where she served her party faithfully in any way she could. Fannie especially enjoyed traveling the world over but the highlights of all her trips is the one where she took a hand made crucifix to Pope John Paul II. Mrs. Serna will be deeply missed by all her many family and friends who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters Josie Jaramillo, Frances Serna, Theresa Lucero and husband Baltazar and Dee Serna all of Las Cruces; brothers George Paz and wife Angela and Gabriel Paz and wife Lorraine all of Las Cruces. Fannie is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lewis Serna; son Baby Louie; brothers Dr. Raymond Paz, Edward and Ben Paz and by her sister Carmen Anglikowski. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. The funeral mass is at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 also at Holy Cross with Msgr. John Anderson officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Fannie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
