Everett Dewey Edington, 91, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away early Christmas Eve morning in the comfort of his home. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Gwendolyn Edington; their four children Lynette Smith, Brent Edington (Claudia Edington), Ann Edington Adams (Kevin Ridd), Claudia Edington and multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Everett was born on New Years Eve in 1929 to Ethel Viola Whitaker and Milton Edington Sr. He grew up on the family farm that was located just outside of Duncan, Arizona with his five other siblings. Everett's best friend growing up was his twin brother Eddie. When they were 12 years old the community had a Fourth of July picnic where a telephone pole with axel grease was put up and a 5 dollar bill was put on top. Eddie and Everett teamed up and got the 5 dollars, but they ruined their clothes trying to get it. When they got home their mother made them use the money to buy new clothes. During his childhood in Duncan, Everett said it gave him the foundation for the most important things in his life: how to work, the importance of an education, the gospel and love for his family. Everett went on after high school to attend Gila Junior College and the University of Arizona where he studied Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. He was also a member of the Lamb Delta Sigma and Delta Si Omega, which were two church fraternities. Everett was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After graduating from the University of Arizona he joined the Air Force where he met the love of his life Gwendolyn. After only three months of dating he knew she was the one and asked her to marry him. She said, "Well, I guess so," and Everette said he should have known then that he would never get a direct answer to his questions. "It has made for an interesting life," he said in his history. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 1, 1953. Throughout their life they both went on to continue their educations and serve as missionaries in church. Everett got his PhD from Penn State University and traveled the world with his wife for work. After a few moves for his schooling they settled in Las Cruces in 1968 They have made this their home. Everett loved to garden and spend time with members from church and his grandchildren. His favorite joke was to say his hands didn't match. He loved his family, community and the gospel deeply. He will be forever missed. Funeral services for Everett will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3219 Venus St., in Las Cruces.
