Eva Jewell Archuleta

August 2, 1942 — December 25, 2016

Eva "Mimi" Jewell Archuleta lost a short courageous battle with cancer in the early hours of Christmas morning, December 25, 2016 in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 74. Eva is survived by her loving husband Ed, of 49 years of El Paso, Texas, her son Troy Archuleta and his wife Linda of Las Cruces, NM; Ed Archuleta, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona; Tara Binns and her husband David of Las Cruces, NM; and five grandchildren, Ashley Achen, Cameron Achen, Chase Achen, Garrett Binns and Gage Binns all of Las Cruces. Her only brother, Roger Hester and his wife Sharyn of Weatherford, Oklahoma. Nephews, Chad Hester and wife Janet of Cherokee, OK, Colby Hester of Oklahoma City, OK, Kylar Hester of Austin, TX and a niece Kayla Hester and husband Jeremy of Protection, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Grace Hester of Guymon, Oklahoma, and an infant son Dustin. Eva was born on August 2, 1942 in Laverne, Oklahoma. She grew up in Oklahoma and attended school in Fort Supply and Gate, small communities in the panhandle of Oklahoma. She was an outstanding student and basketball player once scoring 42 points in one game. Upon graduation she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State where she earned a degree in Education. After moving to Clayton, NM for her first teaching position, Eva met her husband Ed, while teaching business courses at Clayton High School. She also was the cheerleading coach. She married Edmund on June 3, 1967. They moved to Las Cruces, NM while Ed finished his master's degree at New Mexico State University. Over a period of time they grew to a family of five living in Muscatine, Iowa for 6 years, then Albuquerque, NM for 14 years and El Paso, Texas for 28 years. Eva spent most of her life raising her family after teaching high school for a few years. She then later became a very involved Grandma. She would drive back and forth to Las Cruces to help take care of her grandchildren. She adored them and enjoyed taking part in helping her daughter and her family. Unexpectedly in 2010, she helped nurse her son Ed Jr. back to good health after battling and winning a difficult battle with leukemia. Eva was a one of a kind mother, teacher and wife. She liked everyone she met and always saw the good in people. She had a big love for her Miami Dolphins and Oklahoma Sooners. She was very talented in sewing and would make outfits for the whole family to wear. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years to her daughter's troop. She enjoyed jazzercise, playing canasta and cooking and baking for her family. She also bowled on a league in Albuquerque, NM at Eu-Can Bowl. She helped in the Assistance League of El Paso and worked at Operation School Bell for a few years. A visitation/rosary at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, NM is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 2, 2016 at 5:00pm for visitation and 7:00pm for the rosary. A funeral mass will be Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2016 at 11:00am at Queen of Peace in El Paso, TX and a gravesite burial at Hillcrest in Las Cruces, NM following the mass. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Assistance League of El Paso for Operation School Bell. The family would like to thank all of you for your support and prayers.
