As a young man Esau demonstrated an interest in knowing God, and that interest led him to attend youth camps at Sacramento Methodist Assembly, learn the Bible, and to understand God's will for his life. It was this love of learning about God that led Esau to meet the young beauty (Angie Sedillo) who would become his bride in 1949. The couple married on November 6, 1955. Esau and Angie were blessed with two beauties, Cynthia, and Kathy. Esau served our country in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Mansfield Destroyer #728. Esau served his local community through the Las Cruces Lions Club (President 1984-85), joining local eye physicians in medical missionary trips to the interior of Mexico delivering eye care to those who would never have enjoyed that gift without the dedication of men like Esau. Esau also was active in his local church, El Calvario United Methodist Church for decades, serving in a wide variety of administrative roles, on the choir, as a Sunday school teacher, and as a mentor for those that followed him. Affiliated with his service to God, Esau also ministered to prisoners through the Prison Fellowship Ministries here in Las Cruces. Esau coached youngsters in little league baseball in the area for 15 years and was active in raising money for people in need throughout his active life here in Las Cruces. Esau was an extremely competent barber learning that trade at the American Barber College in Los Angeles from which he graduated in 1957. Esau served his profession by serving as president of the Barber Union-Local 1793 for 14 years. Esau was appointed by Governor Bruce King to serve on the State Barber Commission in 1962. Esau was recognized in 1995 as a Nationally Certified Barber examiner. Esau never met a stranger and was an intelligent conversationalist, sufficiently witty to start up conversations and forge friendships with people of all walks of life, politicians, division one basketball coaches, as well as average folks. Esau enjoyed golf, loved to travel, followed his Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Redskins, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling to barber competitions throughout the county. Esau jumped from the confines of ill health and sprang into the arms of his Jesus on Friday, December 23, 2016 surrounded by those he loved the most his beloved wife Angie and his two daughters Cynthia and Kathy.
