Ernesto 'Chubby' Hernandez

Ernesto Hernandez, age 58, also known as "Chubby" to many of his friends and family, of Las Cruces, New Mexico was called to his heavenly home on Friday, July 30, 2021. Ernesto was the owner of Phoenix Lath and Plastering in Las Cruces for the past 15 years. Through his work, Ernesto came to know many individuals, many of whom he considered family. He enjoyed camping, fishing and just being outdoors. He started each day with a prayer and devotional reading. He was a man with a big heart. He was a jack of all trades and was the go-to person when a job became too difficult. He was always willing to help others. He would say "Nothing is easy, but everything is possible." He will be missed deeply by all. Ernesto was born on March 13, 1963, in El Paso, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Debbie and by two daughters Rachel and Rebecca. Other survivors include his parents, Humberto and Lidia Contreras, brothers: Bobby (Stacey), Noel (Valerie), Joel (Alma) Contreras, and by one sister Gabby (Adrian) Apodaca, by many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and his furry babies Shakira and Bella. Ernesto was preceded in death by his grandparents Angel and Francisca Hernandez. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Getz Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by the service. Reverend James Underwood will be officiating. First Visitation
