Emma Jean Caperton

Emma Jean Caperton, 82, died December 2, 2008 in Tualatin, Oregon but was born in and a life long resident of Las Cruces. She died of complications following a stroke, which occurred in July 2007. "Jean" was born on December 26, 1925 in Mesilla Park, NM. She married November 17, 1945 to Harry David Caperton who died January 12, 2001. She was a homemaker and was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Las Cruces and later First Baptist Church, Las Cruces. In 2002 she had moved to Oregon to be closer to her daughter. Jean is survived by her daughter: Kimberly A. Wood and son-in-law William Todd Wood of Oregon City, Oregon; two grandsons: John Kieran Wood and Liam David Wood; nieces and their family: Barbara Barrett of Las Cruces, Wendy Bedy of Las Cruces, Carolyn Brueggemann of Tor C, Glynda Hamilton of Timberon, NM, Sharon Lopez of Las Cruces and Bernie Mayfield of Bullhead City, AZ; Nephews and their family: Jerry Mayfield of Bullhead City, AZ and Gary Warren of Las Cruces. She was preceded in death her husband, Harry David Caperton; three children, Billy Wayne Caperton, James Allen Caperton, and David Hugh Caperton. Her parents, Barney and Minnie Mayfield and two brothers, James Mayfield and Buddy Mayfield. Will be remembered for her strong faith and love for Jesus and her love and adoration for her many friends and family members across the country. Whether someone knew her as "Mom", "Aunt Jean" or just "Jean" she was always there with a kind word, open arms and loving heart. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, December 9, 2008 from 5 to 7 pm at Getz Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Officiating will Rev. Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces. A reception for friends and family will immediately follow at The Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, Las Cruces.
