Eliseo S. Padilla, 89, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He was born Sept. 22, 1920 in Derry, NM to Anastacio and Alvina Serna Padilla. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II. While in the service he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and the Victory Ribbon. He also retired after many years of faithful service from WSMR as a mechanic. Eliseo was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gambling but his passion was for his family. Mr. Padilla will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his seven children Eliseo "Eli" Padilla, Gloria Nuanes and husband Romolo, Steve Padilla and wife Dora, Frank Padilla and wife Susan, Priscilla Padilla, Albert Padilla and Gabriel Padilla; his brother Gilbert Padilla and wife Emma; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his loving wife Adela Padilla, daughter Linda Padilla, grandson Peter Padilla and by his brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 PM on Sunday July18, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 6 PM. Eliseo's funeral mass to celebrate his life will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Michael Cerretto officiating. Rite of Committal is at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Ray, Eric, Josh and Eli A. Padilla, Rick and Romolo Nuanes, Steven Banegas and Angel Martinez.
