Elinor Cruzan

August 25, 1925 — February 18, 2015

Elinor "Ellie" Maxine Davis Cruzan, 89, of Las Cruces passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Mesilla Valley Hospice La Posada in Las Cruces, NM. Ellie was born August 25, 1925 in Portland, Oregon to Lester E. and Helen P. Johnson Davis. At the age of 2, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois. Ellie attended Old Field Elementary School, Elmhurst, IL; Hawthorn Jr. High, Elmhurst, IL; and graduated in 1943 from York Community High School, Elmhurst, IL. Ellie married her high school sweetheart, Wilford "Will" Lawrence Cruzan, March 17, 1945 in Elmhurst, IL. Will and Ellie both work for United Airlines until retirement. After retirement, they moved around living in Las Vegas, NV; Loveland, CO; and Angel Fire, NM before settling in Las Cruces. They were members at First Baptist Church of Las Cruces where Ellie was an active member of the Sr. Adult Choir. Ellie loved music and enjoyed singing solos. She also loved to snow ski and travel. Her smile and "feisty" sense of humor and laugh was infectious and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ellie is survived by one grandson, Alan M. Cruzan and wife Dustin of Elgin, IL; sister-in-law, Joyce Davis of Portales, NM ; niece, Jeanette Cole and husband Tom of Elvert, CO; cousin, Jan Johnson of Easton, PA; and by her loving First Baptist Church family of Las Cruces, NM . She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Cruzan; son, Lawrence Cruzan; father, Lester Davis; mother, Helen Johnson Davis; brother, Richard Davis. A memorial service celebrating Ellie's life will be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 4 at First Baptist Church, Las Cruces, 106 S. Miranda St. The service will be led by Dr. Frank Zamora and Mike Edwards with Getz Funeral Home handling all arrangements. A reception will be held at the conclusion of the memorial service in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church. A special thank you is given to Ellie's caregivers: Jo Ann & Don Kloppenburg, Bob & Judy Marble, Larry & Pat Henson, Mike & Linda Edwards, the loving and faithful staff of the Aristocrat and Messila Valley Hospice La Posada.
