Elbie Homer Johnson, 81 of Las Cruces, NM died Monday, March 2, 2009 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1927 in Coke County, Texas to Albert and Julie Johnson. Elbie served his country honorably in the US Army and upon his return he was in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator. He loved to treasure hunt and spending time working at home on one of his many projects. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen; two sons, Bill Johnson and wife Phyllis and Gary Johnson and wife Judy all of Las Cruces. Two daughters, Shirley Hall and husband Mike of Hagerman, NM and Bobbie Head and husband Greg of Las Cruces. Also surviving is one brother, Don Johnson of Harrison, Arkansas, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents Albert and Julie, he was preceded in death by brothers, L.B. Johnson, Jimmie Johnson, and Willie Johnson and a granddaughter, Carrie Johnson. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 am on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Linvell Tisdale officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, New Mexico. Serving, as pallbearers will be Levi Buckelew, Greg Head, Shawn Hall, Brandon Johnson, Mike Hall, and Casey Johnson.
