Edward H. Sweetser, 85, of Las Cruces passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, on Thursday August 4, 2005. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 6, 1919. Edward served his country in the US Air Corps as a navigator in WWII. He attended St. Johns University in New York on a scholarship. Edward worked at New York Life in New York City for 40 years; he started as an office assistant, became an Actuary and retired as Senior VP and Controller. He lived in the NY area most of his life and retired to New Jersey and Florida at age 62. With his beloved wife he traveled extensively around the world, taking slides and pictures wherever they went. They moved to Las Cruces to be near his family in 2003. Edward had a wonderful sense of humor all his life and was greatly loved by his fellow workers. Throughout his life he took great solace from the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church. He is survived by the love of his life, Elizabeth "Lillian", his wife for almost 62 years-they were inseparable. One son, Dr. Edward R. Sweetser, and his wife, Suzanne Quillen-Sweetser of Las Cruces, NM; two grandsons: Edward H. Sweetser II "Ted" and his wife Kelly of Las Cruces, NM and Patrick M.
