Dolores S. Otter July 12, 1925 – December 20, 2024 Dolores Susan Otter was born July 12, 1925, in Waltz, Michigan, to the late Peter and the late Florence C. (Eberline) Otter. After graduation from Carleton High School, Carleton, Michigan, in 1943 Dolores moved to Detroit. There she worked for the American Agriculture Chemical Company; P. Leiner & Sons, a pharmaceutical development company; and Detroit Edison Electric Car Division. Along the way, she met her lifelong companion, Walter (“Wally”) E. Eagling. After retirement, Dolores and Wally craved warmer weather. In their travels They found their match in the American southwest where, in 1999, they settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico. There they adopted their beloved Shih Tzu, Mollie, who rounded out their small family. Following Walter’s passing in September 2001, Dolores and Mollie continued to live in the Las Cruces home. They loved to walk and were often seen making their daily rounds of the neighborhood. When Mollie got too old to walk, Dolores took her on their regular route in a stroller. Fifteen years after Wally’s death, Mollie passed away. Dolores, strong, capable, and determined, Dolores continued to live on her own for another 8 years. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church. She had many devoted friends and neighbors who watched out for her, helped when needed, and kept her company. Dolores loved to paint, play bridge, and work out on a regular basis. Her life provided an example for many who followed. Vibrant, caring, and stubbornly independent until the last, Dolores S. Otter, age 99, passed away peacefully under hospice care at Blue Horizon Assisted Living in Las Cruces, on December 20, 2024. Dolores was preceded in death by Walter Eagling, Mollie Wallie Noel Otter-Eagling, her parents, and siblings: Henry (Hank) Fahnestock, Amelia Knox, Bill Green, Margaret Dawson, Violet Mientkiewicz, and Peter Otter; and many other friends and family.
