Debbie Pettes was born November 25, 1957 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the eleventh child born (twin) to the union of Charley and Leola Pettes. She graduated from Mayfield High School in 1975 where she excelled in volleyball, track, softball, & basketball. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 1985 where she lettered in volleyball, track, and softball. She was one of the last female Aggie athletes to letter in three sports. She was a special education teacher at Las Cruces High School and San Andres High School. Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Charley Pettes Sr., and brother Michael D. Pettes Sr. She is survived by her mother, Leola Pettes; six brothers, Charley "Skeeter" Pettes (Ruth), Harley Pettes (Rosa), Eugene Pettes, Alfred Pettes (Madeline), Andrew Pettes, James Pettes, three sisters, Ora Jackson, Josie Breazell, and Diana Pettes-Nixon, as host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Friday, February 5, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Las Cruces, 106 S. Miranda with Pastor Gregory Arthur, officiating. At Debbie's request cremation will follow and her ashes will be interred at a later date. PDF Printable Version
