Dawnee Robinson, age 73 was welcomed into heaven on October 11, 2023. Dawnee passed away in Las
Cruces, NM where she had lived for almost fifty years.
Dawnee was born with her twin sister, Darcee Dow McEuen on August 18, 1950, in Morenci, Arizona.
She was the first born of the twin sisters, with Darcee following a few minutes later. Their parents were
Buddy and Olive “Babe” McEuen of Safford, Arizona. Dawnee grew up in the quiet farming town of
Safford with dreams of becoming a nurse. During these early years, she spent her summers on the
Filleman Ranch Eagle Creek homestead in the White Mountains of Arizona. At the ranch she would ride
horses and help work cattle. Her passion and love for horses was cultivated early in her life. Dawnee’s
horses were her life and she enjoyed competing at local and regional barrel races and horse events.
Dawnee met her best friend, James K “Rob” Robinson III at a team roping while she was still a high
school student. She graduated from Safford High School in 1968 and continued her education to pursue
her dreams. She attended Eastern Arizona College for the first two years of college and then transferred
to Arizona State University to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During this time, her
relationship with Rob continued to grow. They were married in Safford, Arizona on September 8, 1973.
Rob and Dawnee started their life together as a married couple residing in El Paso, Texas. She was
employed by Providence Memorial Hospital where she was able to practice her nursing skills. Upon the
impending of the arrival of their first child, she made the decision to be a full-time mother and wife. In
1976, Dawnee and Rob moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to build a home and family around horses,
open space and love. They remained in Las Cruces for the remainder of Dawnee’s life…nearly 48 years.
Las Cruces proved to be a great place for her and her family. She raised five children with Rob. Her
children were raised with the same love of horses, ranching and rodeo. Throughout these years,
Dawnee was an active and contributing member of PTOs and fundraising groups for all the schools her
children attended. She often volunteered in the classroom to support the teachers and the students. As
her children grew, she became very involved in 4H, high school and the NMSU rodeo teams. Her
dedication to her children’s passions for rodeo had her traveling thousands of miles, hauling horses and
coaching for better performances for all five of her children. Dawnee loved the rodeo life and the time
she got to spend with her children.
Dawnee was the CFO of Robinson Cattle Company; Rob would tell you she was the “chief spender” of
the ranching company. She assisted with ranch management for the family ranches in Eagle Creek,
Arizona and Hillsboro, New Mexico. She had membership in the New Mexico Cattle Growers
Association, Arizona Cattle Growers, and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.
Dawnee’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was elated to have all of them raising
their own families within a five-mile radius of her and Rob. Being involved and having a close
relationship with each of her six grandchildren was very important to her. She was often seen
supporting her grandchildren at orchestra concerts, basketball games, FFA livestock shows and fairs,
theater plays, volleyball games, and always willing to purchase whatever they were selling for
fundraising efforts. She always told them “Yes how much do you need”. Her last few years, she could
always be found at any area barrel race or junior rodeo cheering on her granddaughters and coaching
fellow barrel racers. With her mobility issues, she would just pull right up to the arena like she owned
the place. She loved the sport and all of the people involved.
Dawnee is survived by her husband of 50 years, James K “Rob” Robinson III. Her children James “Kacy”
Robinson IV (Chadelle Robinson), Garrett P. Robinson (Sara Robinson), Buddy K. Robinson (Laura
Robinson), Whitney Robinson (Trey Bissett), and Tanner G. Robinson (Montana Robinson). Her home
was never quiet with grandchildren running the halls. Grandchildren include James K. Robinson V, Grant
Robinson, Channing Robinson, Londyn Robinson, Kru Robinson, and Hayes Robinson.
She was predeceased by her parent Buddy and Olive “Babe” McEuen.
