David Pedraza Wood

December 5, 1930 — August 17, 2015

David Pedraza Wood, 85, of Las Cruces, NM left his temporary home here on earth and entered eternal life to be with his heavenly Father on August 17th, 2015 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces. Born December 5, 1930 to Tony and Atillana Wood in Deming, NM, he was raised on a farm as the youngest of four boys; Ernest Wood, Manuel Wood, Eddie Wood, and David. At the age of 17 years old he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Hospital Technician in Stuttgart, Germany and Fort Bliss, Texas. David served from 1948 until 1954 and was honorably discharged. While serving, David received the National Defense and Army of Occupation medals. His passion was artwork with a variety of results. He also enjoyed visiting casinos and music. He valued his independence and held his family very close to his heart. David was a charitable man and supported several organizations. He enjoyed hiking, reading, singing and playing the guitar. David was employed by Western Electric on Marshall Island in construction as a foreman for 2 years, 6 years for Douglas Aircraft, 3 years for GMC and later in his life a variety of handyman jobs. David is survived by one brother, Eddie Wood of Las Cruces, one daughter, Diane M. Wood of Las Cruces, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Atillana Wood, brothers Ernest and Manuel Wood, son Edward E. Wood, two daughters Catherine Leslie Wood and Theresa Susan Wood and two grandchildren. At David's request cremation has taken place and a graveside interment is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 8:30 am at Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces, NM.
