David G Galaz

It is with great heaviness of heart, the family of David Guzman Galaz, 68, wish to inform family and friends of the passing away of our Dear Brother, Father, Husband, and Friend on November 2, 2016. David was born on September 2, 1948 to Santiago "Chago" T. Galaz Jr. and Manuela Guzman Galaz. Paternal grandparents Santiago A. Galaz Sr. and Maria T. Galaz, maternal grandparents Julio Guzman and Mercedes Rodriguez Guzman. David is a member of St. Genevieve's church and devoted to the Virgen De Guadalupe. David attended Grandview Elementary, Court Jr. High, and was a proud Las Cruces High School Bulldawg graduate of 1967, he did graduate with a Star by his name to attend summer school, although Mom had asked him not to have a star. After graduation he enlisted with the United States Army, 81st Third Cavalry and was stationed in Fort Bliss, then to Fort Huachuca City, Arizona and finally to Fort Polk, Louisiana. David served our country honorably and was very proud to be a Veteran. He would occasionally yell out "Good Morning Vietnam." He has 2 close friends he was still in contact with Kiko Salas and David Mowery. After his honorable discharge in 1970, David began his employment with the City of Las Cruces as a Truck Driver/Heavy Equipment Operator. He took pride in his work; he received numerous awards and certificates for his dedication to learning and getting the job done. David was always ready to take the lead on special projects, as he did when he helped place the Indian statue, Dineh at Apodaca Park. In 1993 he had a stroke/ aneurism and was flown to Albuquerque when he underwent surgery. David was on a long road to recovery and was forced to take Medical Retirement after 21 years. David also served 17 years with the National Guard Reserves where he was aka as Richard Pryor, and he retired as a Sergeant E5. David was a lifelong defending Raiders fan. He loved baseball, softball, volleyball, bowling, and fishing. He played in many tournaments and was known to hit homeruns . In 1978 he received MVP at a Santa Fe Inv Tourney which he was so proud of. He looked forward to his deer hunting trips with all four brothers and guaranteed he would bring a deer home. His stories on how he tracked and shot his game were amazing. He was an incredible dancer; he was a handsome man with a lot of respect. He was outgoing and loved to make people laugh (really laugh) and was known for him famous imitation of Richard Pryor. In 1987 David and his two brothers, Bobby and Freddie coached the Pee Wee Reese PAL Tigers and won State Championship, and won 1st place Regionals. They traveled to Forest Park, Georgia for National's and placed 4th. David is survived by his daughter Becky and fianc Rick Villarreal. His grandchildren Ryan and Marquisha. Great grandchildren Jaylen and Kamari. Also, his son Jacob Paz Galaz and Cindy. His grandchildren Adrian, Angeni, Shaianne, and Kimimela. David leaves behind Maria Martinez his companion, stepchildren Mona Rosales, Bernadette Rosales and fianc Rick, Daniel Rosales and Leona. David also leaves his siblings whom will miss him dearly his Little Baby sister Sally Guzman Galaz and children Julissa Estrella Galaz and Esteban Gutierrez Jr. of the family home. Two more sisters Gloria Galaz Venzor and Rudy Venzor and children Jaime, Trixy, Valerie, Sergio. Sister Herminia (Minnie) Galaz Lara and Ramon Lara Sr. and children Arthur John, Santiago, Ramon III, Krista and Crystal. Three brothers Robert (Bobby) and Veronica (Ronnie) and children Robert Jr., Gabriel, Adrian, and Dominic. Brother Alfredo (Freddie) and Gloria children Marie, Daniel, Patricia, Angela. Brother George Galaz children Alexandra and Cruzito. Also sister in law Ramona Rosales Galaz and children Alana, Pablo Jr., Raymond, and Felipe. Brother in law Eliseo B. Pena Jr. (Jimmy) David is preceded in death by an infant son Daniel David Galaz, his parents, a brother Pablo "Chapo" Galaz and niece Christina Galaz and many other family members. Services for David will begin Thursday, with visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. Mass will be 1:30PM, Friday, "Veterans Day," November 11, 2016, at St. Genevieve's Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph's cemetery with full military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Esteban Gutierrez Jr., Jacob Paz Galaz, Ryan Galaz, Robert Galaz Jr., Gabriel Galaz, Santiago Lara. Honorary pallbearers Gilbert Rosales, Chuy Diaz, Paul Padilla, Eliseo B. Pena Jr. (Jimmy), Stevie Manzanares, Tudy Manzanares, Sefe Gonzales, and Tony Valenzuela. Honorary Nephews, Adrian Galaz, Dominic Galaz, Arthur John Lara, Ramon Lara III, Jaime Gonzales, and Sergio Gonzales. Special Thanks to Dr. Cagalia, Dr. Corro and the nursing staff at Mountain View Hospital. May you Rest in Peace Brother, and let perpetual light shine upon You, I Love You! First Visitation
